It's Time for "Try and Tell"

My friend Kim over at Mom Tried It has a fun new blog hop called, "Try and Tell." It's like a virtual play date for moms. Think of it as Show and Tell from our school days, but for grown women. Here's my Try and Tell:

This busy boy...

Needs dependable diapers! That is why I am so glad a random mom at Target told me once, while I was buying the way more expensive brand, that Target diapers are just as good. Skeptical? You bet. So I bought a small package, figuring I would give 'em one chance. Well, that was many months ago.

The Target "Up and Up" brand diapers are leak proof, crawl proof, and don't irate Cubbie's skin at all. My one regret is that I didn't try them sooner. I could have saved a lot of money with all the diapers we went through with Sprout!

I was not compensated whatsoever for this review. I just thought, from one mom to another, you might like to know!

What do YOU think of store brands vs. name brands???

I'm not a mom, yet, but I have found that store brands are sometimes just as good as name brands! Well... except for the face lotions I've tried. :)

I absolutely LOVE Up & Up products!!!! Why didn't it hit me to try their diapers?! Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to get some for sure.
Love the pics - perfect celebration of being a mom to a boy!
Have a super fab day!

I haven't tried them, but may have to now. We have tried generic brands of baby wash, etc, with not so great results. My kids have inherited my sensitive skin, and seem to react to new skin products.

P.S. My son is sleeping in those very p.j.'s as I type this.

I use all kinds of store brands, but have never tried generic diapers. You're making me rethink... maybe I'll have to give it a whirl. :) I am a major coupon shopper and never pay more than $4 or $5 for pampers, but I always have this fear that my "stash" of diapers for Nathan will get used up and I'll have to pay full price. LOL. In that case, it would be nice to know that the generics were just as good. Have you tried any other generic brand diapers or just the ones from Target?

Have a great evening!

Ditto! I just bought my first case, but then potty trained my daughter shortly after so I didn't get to use them very long.

Just saw your Mama Guilt Monday. I'll have to play soon! Take care!

I used to live by Pampers - they were the only ones I could trust - especially with my rashy first child. And then I was broke, with a coupon, and in need of diapers....I will never use anything but Target Up and Up again...aren't they wonderful?! I LOVE those diapers - so reliable and so so cheap!!

Depending on the item I always buy store brands.

You're so right! We've been using Up ans Up for 2 1/2 years now - so great - Thanx Target!

Sam's club brand worked like a charm with my son...but the girl is so dang skinny we've got to stick with the name brand ones that are contoured or everything just flows right on out.

We do use store brand wipes...just as good and soooo much cheaper!

I know, aren't they GREAT!?! Of course my daughter's butt never touched a generic anything but after #2 came I thought I would give them a try to save some money and with him I think they work better than name brand! I wish I would have known a long time ago too!! Besides aren't the green and blue polka dots cute? :)

Im a Huggies girl. Ive tried others and am never happy, so its Huggies for me. But I always (sometimes) use coupons and try to get them for cheaper! :)

I am a HUGE fan of store brands. One of the big names will always be my favorite, but I use 2 store brands very often. Kroger (which recently changed theirs and now I don't like that much at all) and Walgreens. If you try Walgreens brand, get the supreme version.
Thanks for writing this. It was upon the recommendation of another mom that I tried store brands, too.
Thank you so much for participating in Try and Tell! You are a great friend!!

I totally do store brand also, especially during the day. Sometimes at night I use a more expensive brand, but cheap all the way in the day.

My kids are all out of diapers, but I used store brands. My favorite was actually Luvs, but I bought store brands when Luvs weren't on sale. Walmart and Target and Walgreens ones. I had no problem with them. The only ones I did have trouble with? Huggies. Go figure!

I check labels and then use store brands. Honey doesn't like store brands so she gets her own expensive brand name stuff. But she earns the money, so she gets whatever she wants! :)

You know I switched from one "name brand" to another, I heard my first choice company did not want to increase the cost of their diapers so they took out some of the material to make production costs less, no wonder why my little one had blow outs.
Maybe I will try out the Up and Up brand!

We don't have a Target, but I get the Wal-Mart generic- Parent's Choice- and I have never had a problem. They actually have a wider band and closure tab than Pampers. I do have to buy Huggies overnights- but at least one box will last 2 months. And he has sensitive skin- no outbreaks! Great tip!

My neighbor loves Target brand. I am a Pampers girl. I once bought LUVS and they sucked! I never bought cheap again but hey if you say so!!!

I've never bought name brand diapers. It's store brand all the way for me--I like the Parent's Choice diapers at Wal-Mart. I've never had any trouble with them!

what a cutie!
i have tried walmart brand and walgreens brand and had good luck. so i buy whatever's cheaper. (I don't shop at target which is why i haven't tried theirs)

I love the up&up ones! They have made improvements on them, though, and they used to not work very well. Now, they're great!

We cloth diaper at home but our daycare center made us switch back to disposables when Baby Charlie hit the toddler room. We've always used Up & Up diapers! I think they must work just as well as the national brands. We've never had a single problem with them.

My only complaint is that the new polka dot design makes it more difficult to tell which side is the front.

It seemed like for me that it went in phases. Sometimes one brand would work for a while and then the baby would grow a little bit and it would start not fitting or it would leak. Then I had to change to a new one. At the time, I never found a store brand diaper that worked! :(

I always use generic diapers from Krogers. They work pretty darn good!

When they were newborns, I was more picky, (yes EVEN with number 4) but as they get bigger I go to the generic. As long as they work good, I am SO there!

I often buy store brands. (nothing to do with babies) Just store brands in general can be very good.

Name bran or not should not matter. That is what I think. I am a Pampers girl though. I just love them and they work..

The Target ones worked well for us, too!

i remember with my first we were in Germany and i would order huggies supreme by the box so that i always had them. i have never bought target brand but have bought other store brands that have worked great

i have discovered, at least in australia, most of the store brands are just relabled name brand products, i dont think that stands for daipers though, and being the budget concious mum i tried many a brand before giving in and sticking to the biggest brand we have here. all though toys are us do a great "pull-up" training pants that are about 1 quater the price of those big brand ones!

Jenney said...

Store brands ALL the way. I think that the only name brand things I ever ever buy is when it comes to chemical-free products for my kids or organic things (like Annie's mac and Cheese) when we can afford it.

The Up & Up diapers are great! I was also skeptical, but I tried them and they worked just fine. In fact, I they were out once and I had to get Luvs. I was very disappointed in comparison to Up & Up. Plus, the Up & Up's are a great price! And like Laura, I loved the polka dots!

I have tried four or five store/generic brands of diapers and been very unhappy with the leakage. However, I do use the Costco Brand diapers and will buy them over any other diaper on teh market. I love them. Haven't tried Up&Up but I'm willing to give them a shot!

At different times in my daughter's growth, store brand diapers have fit well, or leaked.

BUT, most stores have a great return policy on store brands, so just keep your receipt, and if you have a couple of leakers, bring the rest back! I did this at Wal-Mart.
