Just One of Those Days...

We had a pretty major incident at work today. I can't really go into it here, but please just keep your police officers in your prayers regularily. As a Sergeant in my current assignment, I'm somewhat removed from the actual incident, only involved after the fact.

As a police officer, you know the dangers of your job, but in the back of your mind, you never think anything will happen to you. You have to or else you wouldn't be able to do your job. You put that vest on thinking, "Do I really need this?" Because it's heavy and cumbersome and well, being a female, not comfortable. Then something happens to a fellow officer and the next time you put that vest on, you strap it on a little tighter to make sure the panels are touching so there's no gap in between.

I'm so tired of all the people who want to second guess our police officer's actions. Who puts their life on the line every day they go out the door? Certainly not those Monday morning quarterbacks who want to second guess and judge, but who have probably never had to enter an apartment where a woman says her boyfriend just pointed a gun at her, and he's still in there.

Thankfully, our officers are going to be okay, physically at least. This time we were lucky.

Prayers for all of you. I'm so thankful for you--and the officers in our city, that put their lives on the line for us every day. God bless you!

Man... I really appreciate and admire what you do.
My brother is an officer in Kansas, for the Sheriff's office, and just the stories he's told from his own "small town" are amazing, scary, heartbreaking.. He was actually hit (his body vs. the car) by 2 teenagers escaped from a juvie and who had stolen a car for a joy ride. They decided it'd be fun to run over an officer. His weapon discharged as he was hit and luckily (unluckily?) nobody was injured but the kids tried to say that he fired at them first. Luckily the KBI saw the truth and he went back to work after knee surgery and some counseling. I can't imagine the things that officers have seen, and had to deal with. I know as a nurse I see some weird stuff, but I never feel like I'm in physical danger.
So, ... yeah! Officers are always in my prayers. God bless you for doing your job!

Keeping you in my prayers! I have so much respect for the police officers in our county (even, well, esp. the one that gave me a warning last weekend for speeding...). My nephew is going to school to be a police officer, and that is a job I could never do. Like the nurse above me said (I am a nurse also), my life if never in jeopardy. Thanks for all you and your co-workers do to keep us safe!

All of you all are in my prayers! My cousin is a police officer and I know that there are bold reminders every once in a while that remind everyone just how dangerous it is to be an officer. You just keep up the great work and be safe while doing it!

Stay safe...{{hugs}}

You have my prayers too. Law enforcement is one of the most thankless, criticized jobs ever. But thank you for dedicating yourself to keeping the rest of us safe. It is much appreciated.

Prayers for continued safety of our brave officers...you all have my deepest respect and gratitude.

As for second guessing until I have been in that situation I have no place judging...neither does anyone else. Kim

My husband has been trying to get a job as an officer for a while...too many applicants, not enough jobs...but he is still going from department to department looking.

I am glad that physically every one is OK. Time will heal as much as it can.

Thank you for doing what you do.

Yep that vest had better be tight, every time. Every day. I am so sorry that something happened, that must be awful. We had an incident (#1 wasn't involved) here the other day too. It just all happens SO fast.

One of my very good friends was a police officer before staying home with her son. Her husband is a police officer too. It amazes the courage they have.

My prayers are w/ you all. I have always said the pay system is a little, ok a lot screwed up. Teachers are paid so little, yet w/ out them where would any of us be? Police, firefighters, and the military aren't paid nearly enough for the risk they go through every single day. I have a friend who is a cop and I pray for his safety every single day.
